  • Kilkenny Castle Video

“Until recently, Kilkenny Castle was completely un-networked. Only a few staff had Internet access and it was via a dial-up connection, which was extremely slow.. There was no file or print sharing, and we had to dial-up to get our email. It was a pretty medieval arrangement.

Now we have completely networked the site with a minimal number of alterations.

Given the castle’s status as a world heritage site, we were very restricted in the modifications we could make so a wireless network was the perfect solution. We presently have around 90% coverage in the castle, which is impressive considering that in places the walls are very thick, and there

are six floors and three long wings to the building. The installation only took four days and did not disrupt the guided tours of the castle, which would have meant a loss of revenue,”

Paul Smith, IT Project Manager, Kilkenny Castle

  • St Johns Hospital

“Now that the network is in place, we are very impressed with the way it is working and the efficiency it provides,” concluded Darren O’Brien. “Clinicians are spending less time trying to input information and updating patient records, meaning they have more time for one-on-one consultation with the patients.

The company : St. John’s Hospital

Founded in 1780 in Limerick, Ireland, St. John’s is an acute General Public Voluntary Hospital. The hospital has a total of 103 beds – 93 of which are in-patient with the remainder in the day-care unit. St. John’s provides the community with a twelve-hour A&E/minor injuries service Monday to Friday and also functions as a training hospital, with 26 non-consultant hospital

    The challenge: Overcoming space issues

The hospital sees approximately 20,000 patients a year in A&E and over 5,000 patients per year in the day ward. The hospital was facing a growing demand for better access to patient records and administrative information. Up until now, staff had to access all patient information via a limited number of computers throughout the wards, spread over three floors. With little space for additional work stations, access to the network was in great demand. Doctors, nurses and other health care professionals had an urgent need for a solution to quickly access, input and read patient and diagnostic information on the go.
